He's a sort of feral cat character, always feeling like an outsider, always having a hard time trusting others, and always trying to shut himself away emotionally - and I have a very soft spot for feral cats. And that, in turn, made it much easier for the author to build dramatic and emotional tension, and for the reader to become immersed in the book.I liked the character of Johnnie and his emotional life throughout the book. more lly much less fragmented, and much more continuous, than the first book was. Although ostensibly written with the same structure - one "case" per chapter - it was actua. Review 2: I enjoyed this installment of the series quite a bit more than the first volume (Dance with the Devil). Definitely a series I shall keep reading. I really like these characters, and it was good to see Phil is still investigating, and to get to see Chris, Doug and Sable again. and are more centred on Johnnie and his family. Unlike the first book, the cases he investigates are all connected and do follow a chronological order. Review 1: This is the second of this paranormal investigations series, and this time it's not Chris and his Consort, the Demon Sable Brennan, that take centre stage, but Johnnie Goodnight, the human adopted son of a Dracula, and his bodyguard.
